Making Shepherd Pie - Women World Cup Soccer Game Special Dish - Traditional Shepherd Pie- Homemade Comfort Food Tonight Australian and Nigerian women are playing in our city, Brisbane. we are going there to watch the game. We made some special meal today to mark this World Cup event. The Shepherd Pie is a world class dish, loved world over. Traditionally, shepherd's pie is made with lamb mince, vegetables and mashed potato. We made it with these ingredients. The lamb meat provide an aromatic combination to softened carrot, onion, zucchini and celery, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste and bay leaves to make a tasty gravy. This mixture is then topped with mashed potato and baked to bubbling, golden perfection. This recipe has all the elements for a perfect game day dinner. We love the addition of Worcestershire sauce as it brings a deep umami flavour and a sweet, tangy and spicy punch all at once. Ingredients: 500g lamb minced meat 1 medium onion finely chopped 1 carrot finely chopped 1 zucchini finely chopped 1 celery branch or stem finely chopped 1 tomato chopped and mashed 1 tablespoons plain flour 1 tablespoons finely cracked blackpepper 1/2 teaspoons cumin powder 1 tablespoons Worcester sauce 1 tablespoons soy sauce 1 tablespoons black vinegar 1 teaspoons fennel seed 1 tablespoons gravy mix powder mixed in water or use any stock 2 bay leaves 1 tbsp olive oil Cooking Lamb Filling/Mix. Using a saucepan, add and heat the oil Heat oil over medium. Add onion, fennel seeds, zucchini, carrot and celery and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until soft. Add minced lamb meat and cook, stirring to break up any lumps, for 5 minutes or until lamb changes colour. Add the flour and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes or until combined. Add the gravy mix dissolved in water, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, black vinegar and mashed tomato. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes or until sauce thickens. Taste and season with salt, black pepper and cumin powder. Now you have the Shepherd mix or filling ready for making the pie. For Mashed Potato: 250g potatoes, peeled, chopped 50g butter melted 60g cheddar cheese 125ml milk 1 Puff Pastry sheet to line bottom of baking dish. Method: Meanwhile: cook potato in a saucepan of salted boiling water for 15 minutes or until tender. Drain well. Return to the pan with the butter. Use a potato masher or fork to mash until smooth. Add milk and use a wooden spoon to stir until combined. Taste and season with salt and pepper. Preheat oven to 180C. Line the bottom of the oven proof baking dish with the puff pastry. Spoon lamb mixture into the baking dish. Top with mashed potato and use a fork to spread over lamb mixture. Place some butter and cheese on the top of the mashed potato. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until mashed potato is golden brown. Serve it when it is warm. Enjoy. Nava
