https://www.livingtreecommunityfoods.com Some weeks ago we started our garden for Spring with leafy salad greens. Today, while still in the depths of winter we are planting tomatoes and peppers. We begin with heirloom treasures such as Amish Paste and Mortgage Lifter tomato and then some magnificent peppers and a calendula, an edible flower. We then ponder the larger garden: The headlines proclaim that its social fabric is torn. We’ve become a nation of strangers. In a situation so out of balance why not consider a day of cleansing, a day of regeneration, a day of contrition. A day of just drinking water. A national fast. Let’s follow that with a day of living food- just fruits and vegetables- no snacks, no soft drinks, no take out, no ultra processed food. The emphasis will be on Living Greens. Lettuce, kale, parsley and chard. Imagine a day of vigorous exercise. Imagine every park, every playground, every school yard filled with Americans engaged in calisthenics, stretching and moving to the sound of music. Why not proclaim a day of tree planting? Every American plants a tree! What can be more life giving? What more organic way to stabilize the climate and revitalize this American earth. These winter months are the ideal time to plant a tree. A day of Victory Gardens.-Your backyard can become a biointensive vegetable garden. Your front yard an heirloom fruit grove. Let’s us conclude by agreeing that we have reached the point where you can do anything. You will lead us through the cleansing and regeneration we so desperately need. You will reverse the cultural meltdown, the dissolution and decay. You will renew us. You will regenerate us. You will redeem us. You will plant here a garden for the American spirit. Jesse Schwartz PhD President Living Tree Community Foods
