DEPARTURE FROM MALDIVES VELANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MLE). DUTY FREE SHOPPING AT VELANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. REPUBLIC SQUARE AT MALE CITY. FERRY FROM MALE TO AIRPORT This video is from our last Day in Maldives before leaving the island nation. We start our journey from Republic Square in Male city towards Velana International Airport to catch our flight to Delhi. We take the airport ferry from the airport jetty near Republic square in Male city. (one can also opt for a cab.) After reaching Velana international airport ( earlier Ibrahim Nasir nternational Airport) we go to the common waiting area inside the airport. from there after check in and security we proceed to immigration counters. After clearing immigration we arrive at the Duty free shopping area at Maldives valana international airport. Although "Duty free" the prices of the items are not compatible with the other duty free areas at popular airports. There is a Huge section on perfumes, some watches, lots of souvenirs, some clothing, places to eat including a burger king joint. The place though not big is well crowded. There is a children's playing area at the departures waiting hall. From here we went to board our flight, and after take off we saw the wonderful scenery of the Maldives islands from the air one last time before leaving the place. Velana International Airport (erstwhile Ibrahim Nasir International airport) (IATA: MLE, ICAO: VRMM) is the main international airport in the Maldives. It is located on Hulhulé Island in the North Malé Atoll, nearby the capital island Malé. Today, the airport is well connected with major airports around the world, mostly serving as the main gateway into the Maldives for tourists. It is managed financially and administratively by an independent corporate entity known as Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
