It was such a thrill to finally sail on the Cunard ocean liner that is the Queen Mary 2. This is a ship - or should I say ocean liner - like no other. Indeed, it is the ONLY real ocean liner in the world. All other vessels in the cruise industry are cruise ships, not liners. This video offers a whole ship tour, including an inside look into what it's like to cruise in a Princess Grill Suite, which is what I stayed in for my short, two-night taster cruise from Southampton to Hamburg. The video shows QM2's swimming pools (there are five in total) as well as many deck games from quoits to shuffleboard to paddle tennis. The ship also has a fabulous wide wraparound promenade deck. Decor inside harks back to a bygone era - this is classic cruising at its finest. The atrium has sweeping staircases and the ship has a fabulous old-fashioned library with 10k books. There's a glimpse into my cabin - a top dollar Princess Grill suite with a large balcony. For a more detailed look at this cabin check out my cabin tour video at the end of this one. The video also looks at the perks that come with a grill suite, like an exclusive lounge, sun terrace and restaurant. And then it's time to dress up for Gala night and dinner. I packed my only designer dress - a vintage Roberto Cavalli - and put it on. It felt wonderful (and a little bit Titanic!) walking down the sweeping staircase in it to make a grand entrance! Dinner in the Princess Grill restaurant was SUPERB. It was equally as good as in the Queen's Grill (I will be comparing the two in another video). My rack of lamb and crepes Suzette (both cooked at the table) was exceptional. The rest of the video features a ship line-dancing class in the Queen's Ballroom, afternoon tea in the champagne bar, a show in the Planetarium and a look at the ship's wall of fame. Lots of Hollywood legends have sailed on the QM2 and its predecessors, from Elizabeth Taylor to Charlie Chaplin to Clark Gable and Bing Crosby. Last of all I try an amazing cocktail served in the Commodore Club called 'Transatlantic Love Affair' - it's sensational. And the video ends with a spot of dancing in the nightclub as well as a Broadway-style show in the ship's theatre. This is a fabulous ship. Being on it feels like starring in a Hollywood movie. Two nights wasn't long enough - I was left wanting. more. And the good news is that Cunard has a new cruise ship coming in 2024 called Queen Anne. I can't wait to meet it!
