One of the most unique and intriguing tanks of the Second World War was the Sturmtiger. Based upon the infamous Tiger Tank, it was a military vehicle fitted with a HUGE 380mm cannon or mortar. You might think this was massive, and capable of knocking out any other tank, but there was a problem. The Sturmtiger was a tank with a clear objective, to be able to wreak havoc on heavily urbanised areas, industrial areas and towns. If the German army was attacking a city, the Sturmtiger would be a key vehicle, using its incredible mortar to bring buildings to the ground, and it could penetrate over 2 and a half metres of reinforced concrete. The Sturmtiger would see limited service, and only 18 of them would be made. It was strictly really an offensive weapon and tank, however it came out at a time in which the Germans were on the defensive. It did see offensive action throughout the Warsaw Uprising, however it was a truly fearsome weapon. During other various battles at the end of the conflict it would also be used, and actually destroyed a number of Shermans with it's huge over 1.5 metre long shell. So join us today as we take a look at the Sturmtiger, the Tank with a 380mm cannon. Thanks for watching! Support the channel by subscribing, liking, and sharing.
