Hello friends,
Moong Dal Halwa is an Indian dessert made with skinless split green gram. It’s a very rich sweet with loads of ghee and dry fruits and it is made for festivals or on special occasion.
It takes a long time and lots of patience to sauté the Lentil and prepare the Moong Dal Halwa, and it will probably require a little extra ghee too! However, the outcome is worth every minute of extra effort you put into it. You can store it refrigerated for several weeks. Just add a little milk to the halwa ( Sweet dessert ) before reheating it.
INGREDIENTS
- 150 Gms. Skinless split green gram ( washed n presoaked in water for 6 Hours )
- 150 Gms. Sugar.
- 150 Gms. Condensed Milk.
- 150 Gms. Clarified Butter ( Desi Ghee ).
- Handful Chopped cashew Nuts.
- Handful Chopped Almonds.
- A pinch of Yellow Food Colour ( optional ).
RECIPE
• Grind the Skinless split green gram coarsely in a blender without adding any water. Please Do not make smooth paste.
• Heat Clarified Butter( an Equal Quantity of Lentil ) in a heavy bottom Wok.
• Add Green Gram Paste.
• Stir Continuously , Otherwise it will stick to bottom. ( It takes a long time and lots of patience to sauté the Lentil ).
• Turn the Flames to Medium.
• At first, the lentil will stick to Bottom, So Make an extra efforts by stirring constantly and no need to worry, It starts leaving its bottom Gradually, once roasted.
• Roast until turns Pink, By now, we are getting nice fragrance.
• Now add Chopped Almonds and Cashew Nuts. ( You can add any Dry fruits of Your Choice ).
• Mix well.
• Add Condensed Milk and mix nicely.
• Turn off the gas , But keep stirring, otherwise it will stick as the Mixture is still hot.
Now Make Sugar Syrup
• Put a Pan on gas and add Sugar and 1 ½ Glass of Water, Boil it.
• Add a Pinch of Yellow food colour,
• Keep stirring until sugar dissolves completely.
Now Turn on the Gas of Mixture.
• Add Sugar syrup and mix well.
• Keep Stirring regularly.
• By now the halwa ( dessert ) is getting thick.
• Cook until turns Golden.
Our super tasty and mouth watering Halwa is ready.
Serve Hot.
